Winter 2019 Session
This session will focus on enabling yoga teachers to pronounce the Sanskrit names of postures and the technical yoga philosophical terms with accuracy. It is directed at understanding and reading the transliteration of the Sanskrit words and terms, and actualizing the five mouth positions of Sanskrit sounds.
Discussion and practice includes some theory of mantra and lots of group chanting: the Sanskrit alphabet, Vedic peace chants, select Yoga Sūtras, the names of the Chakras etc., but our main focus will be on the proper pronunciation of the Āsana names used in postural yoga classes. We will lengthen the breath, develop rhythm and experience the subtle emotional refinement that comes with a chanting meditation practice.
This session is open to yoga teachers as well as serious students who wish to develop a chanting practice.
