Karen discovered yoga in high school as a way to recover from cross country races. Her deeper journey of exploration into her own practice blossomed in, of all places, Times Square, at a summer solstice yoga event. The raw energy of practicing in the center of chaos, while focusing to find stillness resonated deeply within her as she transitioned to city life. Experiencing first hand the physical and mental benefits from building a strong practice, she became interested in ways which yoga could be used as a healing tool. She received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification from Sacred Sounds Yoga in June 2015, and, as a means to share the tools of yoga and meditation to and interested in fostering a safe space for children and teens, she trained with Bent on Learning in the Fall of 2015.
Unnata® Aerial Yoga has played a big part in the progression of Karen’s practice and teaching–it helped her to understand the principals of alignment as well as find the freedom to let go, mentally and physically. After practicing with Michelle Dortignac, founder of Unnata® Aerial Yoga, for several years, she received her Unnata® Aerial Yoga certification in February 2016.
Karen is a free spirit who leads her classes with a collective calm and compassion for students. She hopes to inspire students to be in contact with the deeper part of who they are, find their authentic self, and motivate them to live in a place of self love and acceptance. She is forever grateful for all of her teachers along the way. Dedicated to her own growth as a teacher and student, she continues to pursue studies in yoga therapy, anatomy and holistic health.
