Starts Sunday, June 9th at 2:45pm-4:45pm
Series Dates: June 9 + July 14
Acroyoga is a movement form made up of yoga, partner acrobatics and dance. The acroyoga “Montréal” style emphasizes using games, counterbalance and movement experimentation. We will learn the fundamentals of this fun, partner movement style. Essential to Acroyoga “Montréal” style is the use of conscious breath and awareness from our yoga practices; this deep listening is what makes this style so unique. In combination with yogic sensibility, we will flow like dancers, jump and move like circus acrobats and find our inner warriors like martial arts practitioners. The beginning of the workshop will be “solar”: filled with active movement and partner games as we learn the fundamental postures. We will close with the “lunar” section: an aspect of the practice that incorporates therapeutic partner movement.
This series is open to all people and levels of experience. Feel free to bring a partner or find one in the class. Families are welcome!
The proceeds of this workshop will be donated to support Survived & Punished (S&P). S&P is a national coalition that includes survivors, organizers, victim advocates, legal advocates and attorneys, policy experts, scholars, and currently and formerly incarcerated people. S&P organizes to de-criminalize efforts to survive domestic and sexual violence, support and free criminalized survivors, and abolish gender violence, policing, prisons, and deportations. S&P has affiliates in New York City, Chicago, and California statewide. It was founded in 2016 by organizers from the Stand With Nan-Hui defense campaign, California Coalition for Women Prisoners, Love & Protect (then known as Chicago Alliance to Free Marissa Alexander), and the national Free Marissa Now Mobilization Campaign.
